TABCO | Kansas City, KS

Who We Are

In November 2020, Inovar acquired Tabco, located in Kansas City, KS. For more than 60 years, Tabco has been a manufacturer of premium custom printed labels, extended content labels, pouches, and flexible packaging.

Tabco excels in delivering extended content labels that the average shop can’t produce, including complex peel and reveal labels. These are widely used in the pet care industry, in which Tabco serves three of the top five pet food manufacturers. Now, as a member of the Inovar team, they bring their extensive expertise to an even wider customer base.

What We Do Best

Our plant is best known for extended content labels—including dual-ply, flexible packaging, and videojet imaging. While we’re known for these complex capabilities, we can produce custom labels for any application you need. Share your ideas and we’ll bring them to life!

Barkman Honey

Challenge

Barkman Honey had a very specific concept in mind when they decided to offer their products in a single-use pouch. They made the decision in 2016 with a goal of distributing a new custom kraft honey pouch to the market in 2018. They quickly found that most printers were not willing to think outside the box to create a pouch where the kraft paper was consistent with each production and that could pass FDA approval.

Strategy

Tabco, and Inovar company, was approached in the spring of 2017, and the team was ready for the challenge. With our resident technical expert Andy Hart at the helm, the team devised a strategy to create a custom kraft pouch from concept to shelf, to match the aesthetic and performance Barkman Honey was looking for. The process, from concept to strategy to design to FDA approval in December, took about 6 months. Included during this period was also the approval of three channels on the client side – graphics/marketing, co-packer, and purchasing.

Results

The first run of the FDA-approved custom kraft label for Barkman Honey was in February 2018. Initially, we were printing 500,000 units per run and now print 1.2 million units per run. The success of this project has led to additional opportunities to support the packaging needs of Barkman Honey.
