A burning heart digitally created for Blaze Brewing

  |

Reading Time: 4 minutes

My idea behind the burning heart in the hand was that your heart and feelings are constantly in someone else’s hands when you’re in a relationship. You really rely on that other person to take care of your heart, and sometimes things don’t always turn out the way you’d hoped.

The original piece was drawn in Procreate. It was cropped left and right for CANVAS.

Every label tells a story…. Here’s the artist’s story

What is your art background like?

I went to school for graphic design, but after graduating focused more on a career as an illustrator. I had a few graphic design jobs before working in NYC as a graphic artist for a children’s clothing company. I was fortunate enough to be able to leave that position to work as a freelance illustrator full time.

What inspires you as an artist?

I am mostly inspired by people, space, the weird and creepy, and nature. They’re common themes that pop up in my work, especially in the beer labels I do.

What do you hope viewers will feel/experience when they view your art?

I want people to feel excited and curious when they look at my pieces! To be interested in what they’re looking at, coming up with their own conclusions on what each piece means to them. I think it is more fun for people to come to their own conclusions about art, it makes it a more personal experience for the viewer that way.

Does this particular piece have a backstory you could share?

This particular piece was initially created for both Branch and Blade Brewery and Blaze Brewing Co, and was inspired by the first name I was given “Burning Love” (for Branch and Blade). It was in collaboration with Blaze Brewing, who named their version of the beer “Blazing Love!” My idea behind the burning heart in the hand was that your heart and feelings are constantly in someone else’s hands when you’re in a relationship. You really rely on that other person to take care of your heart, and sometimes things don’t always turn out the way you’d hoped. On the other side of that though, a love that burns deep and bright can be a great one, so it’s really up to the viewer and their interpretation.
