Meet the Team: Nye Hornor – President, Amherst Label, an Inovar Company

Nye Hornor is the President of Amherst Label, an Inovar Company, and has been with the company for 28 years. His role focuses on helping the Amherst Label team grow while delivering the highest quality labels to customers. Nye takes pride in fostering a culture of hard work and fun, where collaboration and innovation thrive every day.

What Nye enjoys most about the packaging and label industry is the constant opportunity to learn. Each project presents new challenges that require creative solutions and teamwork. One memorable project was the development of the “Med Sked,” a clear sleeve with daily tabs to help people track their medication. This innovation won a TLMI award and exemplifies the team’s commitment to solving real-world problems with smart, thoughtful label design. Nye describes Inovar’s culture as supportive, collaborative, and customer-focused. He values the knowledge-sharing among business unit leaders and the teamwork that allows customers to benefit from multiple locations’ capabilities. Nye approaches problem-solving by gathering information, involving his team, and leveraging testing, equipment, and vendor support to find the best solution. One challenge that helps him grow is managing Amherst Label’s 15% annual growth, including capacity planning, hiring, and integrating new technology like RFID—all of which are made manageable by a dedicated and adaptable team.

Nye’s first job was as a dishwasher at a summer community in Maine, where he learned the importance of teamwork, organization, and hard work.

If he could switch jobs for a day, Nye would be a professional tennis player, following in the footsteps of his late father who was a professional tennis teacher. A fun fact about Nye is his love of skiing—he learned to telemark ski while living in Winter Park, Colorado, and recently returned to share the slopes with his son on the same trails he skied 27 years ago.

On a day off, Nye enjoys working in his yard—gardening, pruning, mowing, and listening to podcasts. He finds satisfaction in finishing the day seeing a well-kept yard and thriving plants. If he could have dinner with any historical figure, he would choose Walt Disney, admiring his innovation, focus on family, and sense of fun—values Nye incorporates into his leadership at Amherst Label.
